The North Powder School District will celebrate the completion of its bond projects with a Ribbon Cutting, BBQ and Grand Opening on Tuesday, July 16th at 6:30 PM at the school. The community is invited to join in celebrating this exciting accomplishment. The event is FREE.
North Powder voters approved the district’s bond measure in May 2017 for a total of $6 million for capital improvements in the district. With bond funds, a new Middle/High School and a new Gym have been built.
“We are very proud of our wonderful, new school and gym and look forward to sharing the excitement with the community members who made this dream a reality,” said Lance Dixon, district superintendent.
The new school has 13 classrooms, plus office space, support services and staff spaces. In addition to a conveniently located kiln outside the art room, a well-designed science lab and a Home Ec/Life Skills Room designed to accommodate all students, security measures were a high priority for the new school. The main entrance to the school is through the lobby, located between the new school building and the new gym. Doors are accessible with key cards only and all exterior doors automatically lock when they close. A secure vestibule and limited access to the interior of the building also increase security.
The new gym has a digital scoreboard, shot clocks, state of the art sound system and will soon house a new scorer’s table sponsored by the Class of 2019.
Using “green” state funds, roof-top solar panels are also a part of the new construction – power from these will run all the LED lights in the building, with extra power generated sold back to the electric company.
The bond projects were completed within budget and on schedule, said Dixon.
