March 13, 2020

Dear North Powder School District Families,

Governor Kate Brown announced a statewide school closure for all schools in Oregon from Monday, March 16th through Tuesday, March 31st. Prior to this announcement, schools were also directed to take actions in an attempt to slow transmission of the COVID-19 virus. What does all this mean for us? Please see the areas below for specific information.

School Dates: Schools are closed effective Monday, March 16th. Staff will return to work Monday, March 30th so that we can problem solve, plan for potential pro-longed closure procedures and develop healthy hygiene plans for students upon return. We are asking all non-essential staff to stay out of the facilities during this time. Students will return to school Wednesday, April 1st  under current guidelines. Again, we will figure out what this means for makeup days once we have all the details.

Graduation: Graduation remains Saturday, June 6th at 1:00.

College Studies Students: Students enrolled in college courses have staff working to make sure we are problem solving to help you continue upon return.

Meals: We will open our cafeteria beginning Monday, March 16th. We will serve free lunch for all students enrolled in North Powder.

  • A bag lunch will be distributed in the school cafeteria on the following dates and times:
  • Monday, March 16th through Thursday, March 19th from 10:30-12:00 AM
  • Meals will NOT be provided over the regularly scheduled Spring Break.
  • Monday, March 30th – Tuesday, March 31st, from 10:30 AM – 12:00 AM

(STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO EAT AT THE SCHOOL) Meals must be taken home or off school property

Athletics: No practices or games until April 1st.

After-School Program: Suspended until further notice

Other School Operations, April 1st- April 12th: No assemblies or events that bring community and patrons into buildings. This includes classroom volunteers, field trips, outside professional development, parent meetings, concerts, family nights, etc.

Conferences: Spring conferences will be postponed until further notice.

Facility Use: No facility use from community groups, individuals, non-essential staff, etc. until April 13th. This includes gyms, multi-purpose rooms, weight rooms and fitness facilities. Only normal activity during the school day will take place.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together during this challenging time.
